KGB, Past, Present, and Future on Siege
an Editorial by Michael, KGB Warlord

To understand the events over the past year, one must first understand what KGB is. Traditionally, KGB has been about the weak banding together to defeat the strong. KGB has been about fighting players who would impose their will on innocents. We have never been the best PvPers, and in fact KGB has always ranged in PvP skill from mediocre to downright newbies for the most part. However, we have done our best to play to our strengths rather than our weaknesses, and we have had a great deal of success in the past by utilizing our superior numbers and organization to defeat our more skilled competition. Although many players consider our style to be cheap and label us as gangbangers, I have always felt that it is acceptable to revisit grief tactics upon grief players. It might not be as impressive as a small elite guild who can take on and defeat double their numbers, but we’ve done the best with what we have and have been among the most powerful guilds during the prime of our runs on Siege Perilous and Pacific because of it.  Click for the entire Story

High King JetStar responds to Warlords post  - JetStar, KGB High King
Recently I have remained quiet about our return to Siege and the changes to KGB's roster. Michael's recent post is a brilliant rendition of what happened and why. As the leader of KGB, I alone must accept the responsibility for our troubles. The transition from Pacific to Siege prove much more difficult and challenging then I ever imagined. The average quality of both PvP skills and Political / Message Board PvP skills far surpassed anything we had faced on Pacific. With the over confidence I had gained with our great victories on Pacific, my mouth began writing checks that my guild could no longer cash. Our outdated and famous "RED=DEAD" policy made it very clear who was a friend and who was a foe on Pacific. Here on Siege a warrior must also be Judge and Jury, as color means little or nothing. This demands a higher caliber of player. Many of KGB's greatest heroes have been former PK's that I have converted. Some of these converted heroes require a constant source of adrenaline and fresh blood to hold their allegiance, after all this is a game. As Siege progressed, it became harder and harder to determine who our enemies really were. KGB had lost its purpose, our clear mission was now fogged in confusion. Dissention worsened and internal conflict and strife began to dismantle our guild from within. What used to be fun was lost in anger and frustration. For the first time in almost three years, I felt as though the end of KGB was near. I made the decision to mothball KGB until the next big game came around. I had become lazy, disgusted, and to personally involved to effectively plan a comeback without massive changes, lay offs, and the disagreement and exodus of most of KGB's veteran population.
It was not long before I decided to make the changes regardless of the consequences. With the help of Michael and many others, I designed and implemented the new system (This transition to a Constitutional Monarchy is still under way with details available at www.the-kgb.com). During this time, many of our long time veterans decided to pursue their futures without the constraints of KGB membership. Veterans that could not comply to the new set of simple and straightforward rules were asked to leave. Our membership dwindled to 21 members. This was the lowest level since
Immediately the remaining KGB felt as though they had drank from the Holy Grail. Our IRC channel was fun again! Members began to group up and enjoy themselves. It was just like old times. In later weeks, some of our best returned. More and more of the kind of player that represents the best in KGB are finding their way back to us, and this time we are having a good time.
This time around I am going to be a cautious and calculated leader who is sure the money is in the bank before he writes a check. Most importantly, if you don't pick the bad apples, they will spoil the entire tree.
Thanks for listening
